چکیده
The damage mechanisms of cross-ply laminates under fatigue loading have been deeply studied during last years. In the case quasi-static loads so-called scale effect has recently acquired renewed importance after appearance ultra-thin plies. this work, experimental observation onset transverse and its progression in two different tension–tension cyclic is performed. First, a [04/903/04] laminate made plies with conventional thickness (150 g/m2) analysed. After looking for expected case, [04/90/04] single 90? ply (30 studied. All specimens carefully examined by means an optical microscope, detecting non-conventional types damages [04/90/04]. change involving microscopically detailed, meaning evidence delay 90° layer loading. This shows existence concerning mechanisms.

Post-cure shape errors of ultra-thin symmetric CFRP laminates: Effect of ply-level imperfections
This paper discusses the effect of misalignments in ply orientation, uniform variations in ply thickness, and through-thickness thermal gradients on the post-cure shape errors for symmetric cross-ply laminates constructed from ultra-thin composite materials. Photogrammetry-based surface measurements are performed for laminates cured at elevated temperatures. Significant out-of-plane shape error...
متن کاملDamage in Textile Laminates of Various Inter-ply Shift
Deformation mechanisms and failure of textile laminates are strongly affected by inter-layer configurations – a mutual shift of the plies. To model it within a traditional framework, one must construct a representative volume element (RVE), which includes all the plies. This is a time consuming and computationally expensive work. As an alternative, the paper suggests boundary conditions (BC) im...
متن کاملAcoustic emission monitoring of degradation of cross ply laminates.
The scope of this study is to relate the acoustic activity of damage in composites to the failure mechanisms associated with these materials. Cross ply fiber reinforced composites were subjected to tensile loading with recording of their acoustic activity. Acoustic emission (AE) parameters were employed to monitor the transition of the damage mechanism from transverse cracking (mode I) to delam...
متن کاملThe Formation and Effect of Outer-Ply Microcracks in Cross-Ply Laminates: A Variational Approach
The microcracking process in laminates which have outer-ply 90◦ plies (e.g. [90m/0n]s) has some important differences from the microcracking process in laminates which lack outer-ply 90◦ plies (e.g. [0n/90m]s). Foremost among the differences is the characteristic damage state. [90m/0n]s laminates form antisymmetric or staggered microcracks while [0n/90m]s laminates form symmetric microcracks. T...
متن کاملEffect of Ply Thickness on the Damage Development in Composite Laminates (preprint)
This paper describes the experimental investigation on the effect of ply thickness on the first ply failure, delamination, and the subsequent final failure of graphite/epoxy composite laminates. The laminates considered in this paper are a cross-ply and two quasi-isotropic laminates containing thin plies in the desired interface. The onset of the first ply failure and delamination, and the stre...
